South Sydney Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire backs ex-NSW Blue Adam Reynolds to revive career - dailytelegraph.com.au

THIS time last year, South Sydney halfback Adam Reynolds was preparing to play Origin for the Blues.

Twelve months later, Reynolds is battling to produce his finest form in a struggling Souths side.

Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire even concedes some of the criticism aimed at his halfback has been justified.

However, he has full faith Reynolds can return to his best — starting in Friday’s must-win clash against the Gold Coast at ANZ Stadium.

“We all have challenges in and around the game at some stages and I guess people would be looking at him (Adam) and saying that,” Maguire said.

“And rightly so in some areas of his game, but he is one player that has put a lot of time in over the last couple of months to turn that around.

Schick Hydro Preview: South Sydney Rabbitohs v Gold Coast Titans
ANZ Stadium
Friday, 7.50pm

Stranger things have happened.

With their season on the line and a South Sydney team equally desperate to maintain some level of contact with the top eight, the Titans have been installed rank outsiders but need look back only three years to find inspiration.

South Sydney fans have fond recollections of the 2014 season but on a mid-Origin Monday night in July a bit-part team from the Gold Coast came to the big smoke and knocked off the team who would be champions.

South Sydney Rabbitohs beat Gold Coast Titans 36-20 after a second-half surge - ABC Online

Cody Walker scores for South Sydney.

South Sydney has recovered from 14 points down to overpower a depleted Gold Coast, end a three-game losing streak and keep their NRL finals ambitions alive.

Rising star Angus Crichton and winger Alex Johnston scored five tries between them, while full-back Cody Walker grabbed one himself and set up another in the 36-20 win on Friday.

The Rabbitohs were down 20-10 at half-time but switched on the afterburners to cross for five unanswered tries in the second half and consign the Titans to their fourth straight defeat.

The win lifts the Rabbitohs back to within two points of the top eight, while Gold Coast, who was missing 11 first graders due to State of Origin and injury, falls back to 14th spot.

Youth sparks Rabbitohs revival - NRL.COM

South Sydney coach Michael Maguire believes it was some of the youngest Rabbitohs in his line-up that helped spark the side's 36-20 win over the Titans in veteran John Sutton's 300th club game at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.

Headlined by a barnstorming hat-trick to back-rower Angus Crichton on the right edge, fellow young forwards Tyrell Fuimaono and Zane Musgrove also produced a high work rate in the 16-point win.

Crichton was unsurprisingly the man of the moment after producing one of the best individual performances by a forward of the season with three tries, four line-breaks and over 200 metres recorded.

"The first couple of years he's had quite a number of injuries but I've always seen signs he was going to develop into a great player," Maguire said of Crichton.

"The fact he missed two years with injury he probably missed learning the game but he's spent some time with our...

Former Young Yabbies and current South Sydney back-rower Angus Crichton played a massive game of football last Friday with a hat-trick that led the Rabbitohs to a come-from-behind victory against the Titans.

With Sam Burgess injured it was the former Young player’s job to step into the position that allowed Souths to keep their top-eight hopes alive.

But it was the rampaging performance of Crichton that was the talk of the town, the 21-year-old Young –gun terrorising the Titans to show why he has been earmarked as a future representative player.

"I've had a lot of time with Angus now," Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire said.
