Under-fire Burgess twins respond to Mark Carroll criticism as Rabbitohs thump Bulldogs - Fox Sports (blog)

HE’S done it before, maybe it’s time for Russell Crowe to get Mark ‘Spud’ Carroll on the pay roll yet again.

Crowe’s former bodyguard may have accidentally found the formula to get the best out of the Burgess twins after his media criticism of the underperforming duo resulted in a power-packed performance as the Rabbitohs rolled to a 28-14 win over the hapless Bulldogs.

‘Spud’ was this week forced to douse the flames he ignited by calling for Tom and George to drop some weight and add mobility if they want to regain their status among the NRL’s best forwards.

South Sydney Rabbitohs continue Canterbury Bulldogs' NRL losing run, winning 28-14 - ABC Online

Josh Reynolds lifts Zane Musgrove in a tackle.

Canterbury has slumped to its 10th loss from its past 12 matches after going down 28-14 to South Sydney at the Olympic stadium.

Souring the Bulldogs' performance even further was a calf injury sustained by Josh Reynolds, who limped off midway through the first half on Thursday night, raising fears the Wests Tigers-bound five-eighth may have played his final match for the Bulldogs.

The Rabbitohs may have also seen the last of captain Sam Burgess this season after he aggravated a rib injury in the second half and failed to return.

Full-back Alex Johnston reclaimed the lead in the NRL's top try scorers list with a double in a strong performance, while Burgess twins George and Tom both cracked 100 run metres.

Rabbitohs v Warriors: Schick Preview - NRL.COM

Schick Hydro Preview: Rabbitohs v Warriors
ANZ Stadium
Friday, 6pm AEDT, 8pm NZT

Sitting next to each other on the NRL Telstra Premiership ladder after 23 Rounds, the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Warriors meet this Friday in a battle to try and restore some pride in what has been an underwhelming 2017.

The Bunnies come off a convincing 28-14 defeat of the Canterbury Bulldogs, their second win on the hop, while the Warriors crashed to a sixth-consecutive defeat in copping a 36-16 hammering against the Canberra Raiders last week.

After his surprise benching last week, Angus Crichton returns to the back row, with captain Sam Burgess shifting to prop.

Zane Musgrove will play from the bench in an otherwise settled line up for coach Michael Maguire.

For the Warriors, Stephen Kearney has shifted Mason Lino back to the reserves, with Ata Hingano to start in the No.7 jersey alongside Kieran...

Rabbitohs v Warriors preview - 2017 Round 24 - League Unlimited

Match Preview:
South Sydney Rabbitohs v Warriors Friday 6:00pm at ANZ Stadium

Resurgent Rabbitohs target woeful Warriors

Overcoming a disappointing Bulldogs side last Thursday, the Rabbitohs will be hoping to continue their impressive finish to the season with a strong display over the leagues long-standing failures. Scheduled in for the much-maligned Friday twilight slot, the Rabbitohs will be looking to generate plenty of enthusiasm in their play to compensate for the invariably absent atmosphere to be generated by 70,000 vacant seats. Holding an imposing record over the New Zealand club in recent history with five consecutive wins, coach Michael Maguire will be stressing the importance of patience to his side, after overseeing a remarkable escape against St. George Illawarra and a grinding display over Canterbury. Retaining the same squad that has performed so strongly in the...

Ben Ikin unloads on Rabbitohs' roster management as further pain looms in 2018 - Fox Sports

BEN IKIN has called on key figures of the Rabbitohs to pull their fingers out and get the club moving in the right direction in a brutal assessment of the club’s roster management since their history making 2014 premiership.

Currently sitting 14th on the ladder, the Bunnies are on track for their worst season since 2008 and well and truly the low water mark since Michael Maguire took the reins in 2012.

After winning the 2014 grand final and getting off to a flying start to 2015, the rot started to set in, with a sliding seventh-placed finish to their premiership defence followed by a disappointing 12th place last year.

Maguire has faced the blow torch at various times over the past 12 months and Ikin says he and the club’s General Manager of Football, Shane Richardson, need to get the Rabbitohs back to finals next year or heads could roll.

To celebrate Retro Round, FOX LEAGUE has...

Rabbitohs players to blame for poor year, not Michael Maguire, says Angus Crichton - The Sydney Morning Herald

South Sydney's under-performing players should shoulder the blame for a failed 2017 and not under-fire coach Michael Maguire, emerging back-rower Angus Crichton says.

The premiership winning coach has been the target of heavy criticism after another poor year by the Rabbitohs, but he gave Souths fans plenty to cheer about on Friday in overseeing a superb comeback win over rivals St George Illawarra at the SCG.

Sutton confident of new Rabbitohs deal - NRL.COM

South Sydney's NRL games record holder John Sutton is confident of playing a 15th first-grade season at the Rabbitohs and has received a strong endorsement from key forward Sam Burgess.

‌Five-eighth turned forward Sutton, 32, who has notched 278 NRL games since his debut in 2004, has yet to agree terms with Souths for next year.

If he plays the last four games of 2017 and most matches next year he will reach the magic 300 mark, something Burgess would dearly love to see.

While Sutton hasn't totally ruled out playing somewhere else next season, he wants to remain in the Rabbitohs burrow.

He didn't want to be drawn on what stage negotiations with Souths were at, but stressed he intended to play again next season.

Asked if he was confident of playing at Souths again in 2018, Sutton said he was "pretty confident."

"I've got nothing signed, I'm still working on that. I want to play...
