Sam Burgess of the Rabbitohs is in trouble after a shoulder charge in his side's loss to the Bulldogs.

Rabbitohs skipper Sam Burgess faces two matches on the sideline after brother George Burgess escaped charge for raising his elbows in the aftermath of South Sydney's Good Friday loss to the Bulldogs.

The 2014 NRL premiers face being without their influential captain - who is already filling in for the injured Greg Inglis - after the Clive Churchill Medallist was stung with a grade one shoulder charge stemming from a hit on Greg Eastwood early in the Bulldogs' 24-9 win over the Rabbitohs.

But the absence of George on the charge sheet was what caused the biggest stir after he raised two elbows at Canterbury prop Aiden Tolman.

Golden Point: Rabbitohs George Burgess' form, discipline woes cast doubt over future at Souths - Fox Sports

GEORGE Burgess should be unstoppable. But unless something swings soon, his position at Redfern is approaching untenable.

Peter Sterling described the two-year slump he and brother Tom have endured as one of the NRL’s “real mysteries” over the weekend.

The real question is how much longer George can fly close to the sun but fail to fire.

When Andrew Fifita took a $850,000 salary from Canterbury three years ago, for all of about three seconds before the deal unravelled, it knocked the market for big men off its axis, just as Ben Hunt’s Dragons deal has done for creative types in the here and now.

But the handsome money Souths stumped up for Burgess at the end of 2015 looked a safe bet.

South Sydney Rabbitohs centre Siosifa Talakai shunned athletics ... - The Sydney Morning Herald

To put it bluntly, Siosifa Talakai is built like a brick outhouse. And when he says he has an athletics background, you think hammer throw, discus, shot putt, javelin ... whatever he could possibly get his hands on to hurl as far as possible.

"[But] I was actually quite good at walking and came second in the 1500-metre event at state," the Rabbitohs centre laughs of the sport usually reserved for those of skin and bone, not 100-kilogram wrecking balls who now carry a football menacingly in one hand.

Anthony Milford at the middle of two controversial moments in Broncos v Rabbitohs game - dailytelegraph.com.au

SOUTH Sydney coach Michael Maguire is facing the prospect of a $10,000 fine after giving NRL referees both barrels following his side’s dramatic 25-24 loss to Brisbane.

The normally controlled Maguire let fly after his side were on the wrong end of several contentious decisions including Anthony Milford’s matchwinning field goal in the 78th minute.

MATCH REPORT: Maguire drops bomb on bunker

Anthony Milford of the Broncos receives attention from a trainer after a late shoulder charge from George Burgess.

As he caught it, the Broncos five-eighth appeared to bobble the ball before snapping the decisive one-pointer, with Maguire labelling the decision to allow it as “ridiculous”.

“Everyone else in this room — did they see that it was or it wasn’t (a knock on)? Make a call because I don’t want to get charged 10 grand,” Maguire said. “Could you explain that to all the Souths fans that...

Rabbitohs' Cody Walker keen to emulate hero Preston Campbell ... - dailytelegraph.com.au

NO PRIZES for guessing who Cody Walker idolised as a kid.

“Yeah, Preston Campbell,” the Souths No. 6 says, grinning.

“I remember watching him in 2001, the year he won the Dally M medal at Cronulla. I was thinking, wow, he’s the smallest bloke out there and he’s still doing things nobody else can.

“Had no fear, either. I really admired that. Preston was about 60 kilos wringing wet he’s making linebreaks left, right and centre.”

Sound familiar?

Outstanding for Souths over the opening third of the season, Walker also now sits No. 1 for that same category he so admired in Campbell — linebreaks.

Not just in the halves category, either. But ahead of every other player in the NRL.

According to Fox Sports Statistics, Walker has broken opposition defences 11 times. It puts him...

South Sydney Rabbitohs' Sam Burgess: My brother knows what to do - The Sydney Morning Herald

Sam Burgess has no plans on playing big brother to George as South Sydney's bad boy sits out his second suspension of an NRL season just eight rounds old.

Where all the indigenous NRL stars went - dailytelegraph.com.au

SO where have all the Aboriginal playmakers gone?

“You know,” Cody Walker grins, “that’s one of the best questions I’ve ever been asked.

“But the answer — I dunno.

“I can’t say why there isn’t more of us playing ... I can only tell you why I am.”

Which may be enough.

For what is Walker if not a 100-1 TAB ticket?

The son of a country corrections officer who, raised with little, and handed less, arrived at Redfern last year having humped his swag through seven winters, three states and five clubs in the NRL, Queensland Cup, even Sydney park footy.

Cody Walker has found his home at the Rabbitohs.

Sure, Walker had been named for an NRL debut. But that was two years earlier.

And still, at age 27, he was waiting.

Another indigenous wannabe, it seemed, born too late.

For 20 years ago this winter, Aboriginal playmakers were...

NRL needs to clean up its reffing act - dailytelegraph.com.au

IT’S the ugly spot sitting at the corner of the NRL’s nose that they don’t want us to talk about.

Michael Maguire took a swipe at it last Friday night and, without wanting to be hit with a $10,000 fine, did his best to make us all aware of it again.

But almost as soon as Maguire said his piece, the game moved on.

Like the booger didn’t exist.

I don’t know about you but I’m sick of looking at it.

I’m not even a Souths fans and I still can’t believe they alone wore the consequences of what happened in that heartbreaking loss to Brisbane.

Yes, it is a new round kicking off tonight.

But did we really learn anything from the diabolic decisions that cost the Rabbitohs two crucial competition points?

Luke Kelly firming as Adam Reynolds' replacement for South Sydney Rabbitohs - The Sydney Morning Herald

They've potentially lost their State of Origin halfback for the first month of the season, but the Rabbitohs have no qualms with a journeyman No.7 coming off a serious knee reconstruction filling Adam Reynolds' boots.

Parramatta recruit Luke Kelly, who has chalked up just 47 games across seven injury-ravaged NRL seasons with the Storm and Eels, is firming for a South Sydney debut in the opening round blockbuster against the Tigers on Friday night.
