McLeod wins two from two

692857 mcleod-wins-two-from-two

Circuit Zolder was the site for Week 2 of the iRacing.com V8 Supercars Series and what an exciting race it proved to be. It had indeed been quite some time since the almighty roar of the V8s was heard through the turns and chicanes of this Belgian favorite (2013 Season 1) and the drivers were keen to give it a go with the New Tire Model V5 (NTMv5). With conditions which were ideal for close sim racing action, the experienced drivers of the Ford Falcon — combined with the 22 laps around this circuit — provided just that: close sim racing action.

As the cars gridded up, it was Trans-Tasman Racing (TTR) driver Tony Autridge who took pole position with a 1:24.402. Hot on his heels was Beau Cubis of Altitude Brighton Volvo followed by last week’s winner, 4 Motorsport driver, Mitchell McLeod. Michael Fulcher of Kamikaze Racing Team and Jake Burton of KustomImage Motorsport completed the...

Fun in the Sun for Cubis

655205 fun-in-the-sun-for-cubis

It’s a glorious path to heaven for some and the bane of existence to others. In one moment, you could be having that special “Whincup” moment where you’re ripping through the field, hitting all of your marks and feeling like you should be doing this racing stuff for a living. In the next moment, one could easily be asking, “Whose idea was it to put a corkscrew in a racetrack?” as you careen out of control towards the nearest concrete barrier.

Yes, that would be Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca which is, in my opinion, one of the most challenging/rewarding road courses in the United States. It has a little bit of everything so if your sim racing appetite is as picky as your mouth-chewing appetite, you might find yourself in a bit a trouble. Still, it proved to be a sunny and enjoyable “virtual” day as the iRacing.com V8 Supercars Series made Laguna Seca its home for Week 6 of Season 3.

Fabian stops the McLeod train

635240 fabian-stops-the-mcleod-train

In a flawless display of driving skill, Mad Cow Racing driver, Michael Fabian, toppled the winning streak of Mitchell McLeod with a dominant win at Oulton Park. With McLeod coming into this race as the driver to beat, Fabian put one on the former champ with a dominance of his own.

Starting on pole position with a lap time of 1:30.626, Fabian was all set for a good run as he out-qualified fellow front row starter McLeod. Starting in third was Hi-Tec Sim Racing’s Beau Cubis followed by Trans-Tasman Racing (TTR) driver, Tony Autridge. The top-five starting order was rounded out by Kurt Stenberg of Kustom Image Motorsports.

From the drop of the green, it was all Fabian all the time. Getting a perfect launch, Fabian wasted no time building a lead on McLeod and the rest of the field.

At the same time, there was some trouble further back down the order as Kamikaze Racing Team driver, Corey...

Can anyone stop McLeod?

635241 can-anyone-stop-mcleod

In a third straight show of dominance this season, 4 Motorsports driver Mitchell McLeod, continues to illustrate how the former iRacing.com V8 Supercars champion still has what it takes. For 36 laps of sim racing on the West configuration at the Circuit of The Americas, the finest drivers in the category fought door-to-door for every possible position. Indeed, there have been many movers and shakers this season and Week 3 promised to be no different. Still absent, however, were many of the series’ favorites such as Madison Down, Richard Hamstead and Jarrad Filsell.

Coming off of a strong victory last week at Circuit Zolder, McLeod started on pole position with a time of 1:33.119, a full half second quicker than the number two starter, Ian Ford of Demidov Motorsports. Starting in third and fourth – and separated by .03 seconds – was Jake Burton of KustomImage Motorsports and Kamikaze...

As we officially reach the halfway point of the 2014 racing year, many drivers enjoyed a much-needed break after an exciting completion to Season 2 of the iRacing.com V8 Supercars Series. With the break came the much-anticipated New Tire Model version 5 (NTMv5) which has been received with open arms by many in the V8 community. As such, various teams stayed busy throughout Week 13 in an effort to adjust their vehicle setups to accommodate the update. As we headed into Week 1 of Season 3, the series revisited the roller-coaster of Road Atlanta which has enough elevation changes to make your head (or your car) spin. This 2.54 mile long road course is well known for its blind corners so it seemed fitting that the drivers had ample time to test their new setups on such a difficult track.

As the field gridded for the weekly Strength of Field (SoF) race, it was 4 Motorsport driver,...
